Replit isn't a single product — it's an editor, an agent, a database, deployment, secrets, hosting, and a multi-language runtime, all in one browser tab. The Replit Agent reads your project, proposes changes, runs them, and ships them, end-to-end. For a semi-technical founder who can read code but doesn't want to run a laptop dev environment, that loop is genuinely powerful. Nothing breaks the 'set up your toolchain' barrier as cleanly.

Who should use it: founders who code occasionally and want everything in one place, builders who prefer cloud workspaces to local setup, anyone teaching themselves to code while shipping, and teams that want one shared environment instead of 'works on my machine'. The pay-per-use Agent pricing is fair for the leverage — most small projects finish under $20 of Agent spend.

Who should not: if you've never opened a code editor and don't want to start, Lovable or Bolt are the right tools — Replit still expects you to read what the Agent wrote. If you're a serious developer, you'll feel the latency of a remote workspace and probably prefer Cursor on a local machine. And if your project depends on heavy local tooling (GPU, custom CLI binaries, niche dev kits), the cloud-only model is a constraint.
